January 2017

To AP students:

Now that the 2nd semester of the school year has begun, it is time to begin the process for ordering the AP exam(s) you will be taking in May. The Advanced Placement program is recognized as a national (and indeed, an international) standard of academic achievement.  By participating in courses that are the equivalent of college level studies, you are preparing now for the expectations and standards of college. The fact that you chose to be in this challenging and rigorous program is a sign of your commitment to your academic achievement.  We applaud this effort and want to help make the ordering and payment process as smooth and easy as possible.  Please be aware that some colleges do not extend college credits to students for scoring well on the AP exam.

The price for the 2017 AP exams is $94 per exam.  Registration and payment for the exams will be accepted starting January 23th.   Orders and payments for the AP exams can be processed online through the MVHS webstore or at the MVHS Finance Office.  To access the MVHS webstore, go to the MVHS homepage and click on the link to the webstore.  The first time you access the webstore, you will need to create a username and password, directions for which are located on the webstore login page.  A credit card is required to pay online and a processing service fee of approximately $6.50 will be added to the cost of each exam.  The MVHS Finance Office will be able to accept anyone wishing to pay by cash, check, or money order.  If you pay at the MVHS Finance Office, you will need to fill out and bring the enclosed registration form.  Checks should be made out to MVHS.  Students on free/reduced lunch or those seeking financial assistance may be eligible for fee reductions and should see Marivic Cagatao in the administration office to complete the required forms.  Registration for AP exams will end on March 3rd at the Finance Office and at midnight on March 5th for the MVHS webstore.   Late orders placed between March 6th and March 10th will need to be placed in the MVHS Finance Office and will incur a $25 late fee.  No orders will be accepted after March 10th.  Lastly, no refunds will be given for tests purchased.

Be alert to the fact that students must register for the correct exam.  Titles of exams may look similar, so pay attention to make sure the exam you request is the exam that corresponds to the AP course you are enrolled in.   Should something come up and the student is unable to take an exam on the scheduled day, an alternate exam date can be arranged; however, an additional $45.00 charge may apply.   The College Board regulates these exams and we are required to follow their very strict policies.

We have created an AP Exam e-list to distribute important information and reminders as we get closer to the exam days.  Please make sure to sign up on the e-list page of the MVHS website.  In addition, we will be conducting MANDATORY Pre-ID  sessions for students to fill out identifying information on their answer documents in advance, thereby saving valuable time doing so on the actual exam day.  Exact dates/times/location are in the table below.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this process, please contact Linda Vitz at linda.vitz (at) MVLA .

Sincerely,
